Miss Mildred's home was the first very large project we completed. Her family has lived in this house for over a hundred years. She was born inside this home. Both of her parents and her husband, at different times, all passed away within this home. After the storm, Mildred returned to her porch – the only structure left standing – because she didn't know where else to go or what to do.
Multiple organizations, including FEMA and the local government, told Mildred that her home was too far gone and that it needed to be torn down. It was a difficult project, but after hearing Mildred's story demolition was not an option. Miss Mildred won't have to worry about housing again in her lifetime; we re-dedicated her home in March 2007.
